About Us
The UNO AAUP chapter is a nonprofit professional organization whose general purpose is to maintain and advance professional standards within higher education. In doing so, we believe that we will serve the best interests of society by protecting the time-honored American tradition of academic freedom and tenure and shared institutional governance. The UNO AAUP is an affiliate of the American Association of University Professors, whose national office is located in Washington, DC. The UNO AAUP provides a number of benefits to faculty on our campus.
We are the bargaining unit for faculty contracts. We negotiate on behalf of all full-time tenure-track and tenured faculty and instructors and represent faculty in contract disputes. Our grievance team also helps members navigate their rights under the contract. We consult regularly with administration and faculty regarding contract issues and provide advice on matters of academic freedom. Joining the UNO AAUP as a dues-paying member supports this important work.
Dues paying members also have the opportunity to:
Attend member social happy-hours and dinners.
Vote on or serve in UNO chapter leadership and contract ratification.
Participate in the Nebraska Conference of the AAUP.
Get access to National AAUP benefits, such as webinars, guidebooks, a subscription to Academe, and discount insurance programs.
Get access to National AFT benefits after the National AAUP and AFT agreed to an affiliation agreement in 2022.
